Mexican Plateau 

lies between the Sierra Madre Oriental and Occidental.

largest and most densley populated region of Mexico.

split into two regions:

Mesa del Norte - Northern Plateau

     very dry with large cities

Mesa Central - Central Plateau

      breadbasket of Mexico and is        the major grain producing region. 

      less arid than the northern                  region

      most of the food grown in                  Mexico is from this region

 

 home to the Lerma River

regional high pressure systems keep the area dry and cause droughts

 

northeast trade winds bring in tropical storms

 

contains many important mineral resources:

  Silver Belt - industrial and precious          minerals mining.

Mexico is the leading producer of silver
